Alaric Buxtehude was the brother of Simm Buxtehude and a questor of Holden. While questing for information that might aid Holden's cause, he stowed away on an Ord airship and learned the truth of the Tapestry of Worlds, along with Countermay's existence as a card game in our world. He was able to return to Countermay with a deck of R9E cards to aid Queen Genevieve in estimating their enemies' forces, but the timeline collapsed, causing the Queen to forget and Alaric to disappear from the world.[1]
